San Pedro
San Pedro de Macoris is the full name of this city about twenty five miles west of La Romana. When the sugar refineries were nationalized it rivaled La Romana for sugar production. Today it is perhaps best known as the home to many big league ball players such as Sammy Soca and Pedro Martinez.
Most of the sugar is gone but the bateyes and the poverty remains.
We have had a relationship with the church in San Pedro since the ear
ly 1990's when it was considered a 'church plant' from the Mother church in La Romana. Ketly and Vital were in La Romana at that time aand it was Vital's energy that got the school project off the ground. Over the past two years the school has been expanded adding capacity to reach more children as well as adding additional classrooms for higher grades.
