Promoters. or Promotors as they spell it, are women in the batey that have received some degree of medical training. They are not nurses or EMT’s but they know how to spot symptoms and can administer medications, as well as some basic first aid.

Their chief responsibility is to oversee the general health of the people living in the batey and bring health issues to the missionary or the hospital.

For their services they are paid a small monthly salary. Even at the small amount they are paid we are not able to provide this service to all the bateys. This is an important link in the care we try to provide and we want to expand the service throughout the region.

Two of the programs managed by the Promotors are ‘Adopt a Batey’ and the Nutrition Program.
