Update on Haiti plans: 1-16-10
Kristy was here last night and gave more details on the trip planned for Tuesday. It is still not clear exactly who is going, but the leaders will be Kristy and Andrea, also Andy and Denny are going. There will be some Doctors from Good Sam and also from the public hospital going, several local Politian's and local TV people are with camera's. Kristy told me that she is not concerned about their safety, even though she knows things may happen, she strongly feels that God will protect them all and also because of the high profile people going there will me more protection. She asked that we pray for the emotional impact on all who go on the trip.
Contact has been made with a Pastor from Haiti that is well known here in La Romana. He has come to speak at Iglesias Maranatha a number of times. He has a ministry in Port a Prince, that includes a church (which was somewhat damaged) a school and a medical clinic. The plan is to help with the clinic while they are there. They hope to leave very early Tuesday (maybe as early as midnight) to drive to the border. Hospital vehicles will be used to drive at least to the border. There will also be trucks with food, medicine and other supplies going with them. Additionally there will be the afore mentioned persons, so it will be a fairly large group in total. Kristy was not sure if someone would meet them at the border with other vehicles or if they would drive the rest of the way to Port a Prince. They plan is to stay for 5 days.
The main purpose of this trip is to access the situation and determine how we can best help from here. She asked me to PLEASE, PLEASE ask people NOT to make plans to come to La Romana to help, just yet. Once she has returned and an assessment has been made and word will be sent out what type of needs can be met at a future date!! The need now is for prayer and money. Thank you all for respecting this request. Until the needs are really know it is very difficult to have people come here. BUT.... The schedule for teams remains what it was, no changes are being made, so continue to plan your trips and we look forward to working with you.
Kristy hopes she will be in contact with Moises who keep me updated and I will send out more information.

The team from Kansas City led by Ginny and Scott Beal have been in La Romana this week. They had a very successful week, with a surgery team and a medical team.
The Surgery team did 70 consults on Sunday, during the week they performed a number of procedures and injections, they performed 26-30 life changing surgeries and did follow up on Friday. They were able to clean Johanna's foot and fashioned a apparatus for her foot, Praise God. The medical team did 11 clinics during the week, seeing approximately 600 patients. At the end of the week, the team made a decision to donate antibiotics, first aid supplies and other medications from their church's supply to the effort in Haiti. The donation is estimated to be about $4000 in value. Praise God for their generosity. Ginny's response to my thank you was, "we were here at the right time".

Please continue to keep all our friends in your prayers, many of them have not heard from family and Haiti, BUT they are trusting God for his provision.
Blessings to all,
Cyndi McNamara
