Two weeks ago most of us probably never thought much about earthquakes and today I think most of us could teach Earthquake 101. I’ve learned about the Septentrional Fault as well as the Gonave Microplate. All this because I’ve been getting questions regarding the risk of a Port-au-Prince magnitude earthquake in La Romana.
The answer is who knows but it looks pretty low. The red pins in the map below show the highest risk areas. The closest location is fifty five miles from La Romana.
Also, La Romana is on land that is pretty much fossilized sea creatures, like coral, as any one that has had the opportunity of driving a pick ax into it can testify.
